Start with the reason to change

You need a different assistant, workspace boundary, or connected-knowledge approach and can evaluate that job separately from Microsoft ecosystem adoption.

Alternative product fits

01

General AI assistant

ChatGPT

A general OpenAI assistant surface is a credible candidate for the same bounded workplace tasks.

Verify: Exact product and model, workspace controls, connected tools, source behavior, retention, and task acceptance.
02

General AI assistant

Gemini

Google-facing files, services, or account administration define an important comparison context.

Verify: Product surface, account type, model identity, source permissions, administrator controls, and regional availability.
03

Workspace AI

Notion AI

The work begins and ends inside a Notion knowledge workspace.

Verify: Workspace permissions, connected sources, freshness, answer traceability, supported actions, and human review.
04

Enterprise AI research and knowledge assistant

Glean Assistant

Permission-aware retrieval across approved enterprise systems is the central job.

Verify: Connector scope, identity propagation, source attribution, stale content, action controls, logs, and governance.

Switching checklist

  1. State the job, users, source material, and acceptance checks before naming candidates.
  2. Run every candidate on the same permissioned inputs and record the exact product surface used.
  3. Score accepted outputs, critical failures, reviewer time, and workflow fit separately.
  4. Check current administration, retention, export, regional, and integration terms at the official source.
  5. Pilot with human approval and a rollback path before replacing the current workflow.

IndexNow proof-origin protocol fix

Production Bing validation exposed HTTP 500 at the external root proof because TLS termination was followed by an internal rewrite using the wrong protocol. This release corrects that rewrite boundary, but remains unverified until the external proof returns HTTP 200, the automatic submission runs, a later canary returns HTTP 200, and the idempotent rerun passes.

IndexNow root-proof request compatibility

After v4.3.3, the exact root-level {key}.txt proof returned HTTP 200, but a full request carrying keyLocation still returned HTTP 403; a minimal homepage request with the same production key and no keyLocation returned HTTP 202. This release omits that field, while the automatic full run and idempotent rerun remain deployment checks.

IndexNow key-proof compatibility

Changed IndexNow verification to the official root-level {key}.txt convention after the first production notification returned HTTP 403; revalidation remains pending, while the website, sitemaps, and Bing sitemap processing are unaffected.
