Descript

A collaborative audio and video editor built around transcripts, text-based editing, recording, generated voice and media, captions, and repurposing workflows.

Editorially reviewedVerified 2026-08-112 official or primary sources

What it is

Descript links a transcript to underlying audio and video so creators can edit media through text as well as timeline and scene controls. Its official help material also covers recording, generated voice, AI-assisted cleanup, clips, layouts, captions, and exports.

Evaluate transcript-linked editing on representative material. Measure transcription and speaker accuracy, edit alignment, audio artifacts, caption quality, scene control, collaboration, voice consent, accessibility, export fidelity, and the time needed for a final human pass.

Worth evaluating for

  • Podcasts, interviews, tutorials, and talking-head videos edited through text
  • Teams repurposing long recordings into reviewed short-form assets
  • Collaborative media workflows that need comments and editable project files

What to measure

  • Transcript, speaker, edit alignment, audio, caption, and export accuracy
  • Scene, timeline, brand, collaboration, version, and review controls
  • Voice consent, generated-media disclosure, privacy, and deletion requirements

Decision cautions

  • Transcript errors can create unintended edits in the linked media.
  • Generated or regenerated speech requires consent and careful listening for artifacts.
  • AI cleanup and clips can remove context or change pacing without an editorial review.

Latest releases

IndexNow root-proof request compatibility

After v4.3.3, the exact root-level {key}.txt proof returned HTTP 200, but a full request carrying keyLocation still returned HTTP 403; a minimal homepage request with the same production key and no keyLocation returned HTTP 202. This release omits that field, while the automatic full run and idempotent rerun remain deployment checks.

IndexNow key-proof compatibility

Changed IndexNow verification to the official root-level {key}.txt convention after the first production notification returned HTTP 403; revalidation remains pending, while the website, sitemaps, and Bing sitemap processing are unaffected.

Bing sitemap discovery and IndexNow change notifications

Prepared canonical sitemap discovery for Bing and added automatic IndexNow change notifications while keeping segmented sitemaps authoritative and making no claim that a notified URL has been crawled or indexed.
