Alternative product fits

01

AI research assistant

Elicit

Structured literature discovery and evidence extraction are central to the review process.

Verify: Search coverage, screening rules, extracted fields, source passages, and repeatability.
02

AI answer engine

Perplexity

The research question also requires current public-web sources outside academic indexes.

Verify: Source type, authority, dates, entailment, and whether primary research is clearly distinguished.
03

AI research assistant

NotebookLM

Researchers want to interrogate a manually curated reading set.

Verify: Supported sources, access boundaries, citations, synthesis across disagreement, and export review.
04

General AI assistant

Gemini

A general Google-facing assistant surface is a relevant research candidate.

Verify: Exact surface, model, research tools, source behavior, account controls, and result reproducibility.

Switching checklist

  1. Define the allowed corpus and the authority level expected for material claims.
  2. Use the same dated questions and source expectations for every candidate.
  3. Review citation presence, source authority, entailment, coverage, and inaccessible sources separately.
  4. Test permission boundaries and missing-answer behavior before connecting private material.
  5. Keep an editorial reviewer and a recheck date for time-sensitive conclusions.

IndexNow proof-origin protocol fix

Production Bing validation exposed HTTP 500 at the external root proof because TLS termination was followed by an internal rewrite using the wrong protocol. This release corrects that rewrite boundary, but remains unverified until the external proof returns HTTP 200, the automatic submission runs, a later canary returns HTTP 200, and the idempotent rerun passes.

IndexNow root-proof request compatibility

After v4.3.3, the exact root-level {key}.txt proof returned HTTP 200, but a full request carrying keyLocation still returned HTTP 403; a minimal homepage request with the same production key and no keyLocation returned HTTP 202. This release omits that field, while the automatic full run and idempotent rerun remain deployment checks.

IndexNow key-proof compatibility

Changed IndexNow verification to the official root-level {key}.txt convention after the first production notification returned HTTP 403; revalidation remains pending, while the website, sitemaps, and Bing sitemap processing are unaffected.
